School Counseling

Course Description

With the new school year starting, I wanted to take a moment to introduce myself. My name is Melissa Henry and I’ll be your student’s School Counselor. I’m excited to get to know both you and your student, and I thought I’d provide a little background about myself.

This is my 24th year in education. I have a master’s degree in School Counseling, and a bachelor’s Degree in Special Education. I believe that students can make significant academic progress when parents, teachers and other school staff partner together.

During the upcoming year, I look forward to working with you and your student in both the classroom setting as well as on an individual or small group basis.

Every child in our building will spend some time with me during classroom guidance lessons. While this will not happen on a weekly basis this year, I will be in classes a few times a month. These lessons will cover topics such as bullying prevention, emotion management, problem, solving, drug/alcohol awareness, personal safety, empathy, skills for learning, peer pressure, college and career readiness, and test taking skills/test anxiety.

Small groups of students who may need help with adjustments to changes in family, social skills, organization skills, etc. may meet weekly for a few weeks. In the small group, students will learn ow to understand and solve problems through discussions, games, activities, and sharing experiences with each other. If you are interested in a small group for your student, please contact me.

Individual counseling is also available on a short-term basis for students that need support with issues that impact school.

My contact information is below, and I encourage you to call or email me anytime you have any questions or concerns about your student.
