This week we will be beginning Unit 1: Place Value, Multiplication, and Expressions!

Standard(s): Standard 5.NBT.A.1 Recognize that in a multi-digit number, a digit in one place represents 10 times as much as it represents in the place to its right and 1/10 of what it represents in the place to its left.

• Fluency Practice - Daily practice of math facts.
• CUBES strategy (this is our main goal for the day) - This focuses on building understanding of word problems and determining how to approach word problems in math.
• Khan Academy - Students will work at their own pace through fifth grade math content, relevant to our current unit.
• Centers - Students will go through centers in small groups working on tasks to reinforce math skills and understanding of concepts.

Tuesday

This week is all about assessments! Here is our schedule for this week (please be aware that this could change, especially if we run into any technology issues):

Monday
• AIMSweb benchmark testing (this is our main goal for the day)
• Khan Academy - growth mindset
• Xtramath - placement quiz

Tuesday
• Pre-requisite skills test - this assessment focuses on 4th grade content mastery (this is our main goal for the day)
• Multiplication of multi-digit numbers using standard algorithm
Wednesday
• 5th grade skills test - this assessment is a pre-test used to show what students may already understand from 5th grade content (this is our main goal for the day)
• Introduction to place value
Thursday
• IXL diagnostic test - this assessment gets students started on the IXL program which allows for individualized practice skills (this is our main goal for the day)
• More place value
Friday
• Fluency assessment - this brief assessment will be used to measure each student's current comfort with multiplication facts (this is our main goal for the day)
• Accountable talk in math
• Any tests that a student hasn't completed yet

Aside from assessments, this week will be focused on getting students acquainted with the programs, procedures, expectations, and routines of the course.
