About Me

Tusculum University, M.A.
in Elementary Education (2019)

Welcome back to school!  I am very excited to return for my 2nd year teaching at LES.  I teach 4th grade Reading/Language Arts and social studies and I am looking forward to forming positive relationships with our students and helping them achieve their fullest potential. My son, Zachery, is a rising 4th grader here at LES, so I am personally vested in ensuring our children receive the best education possible.

It's difficult to remember my most memorable moment (or any moment for that matter) from elementary school because I attended those grades about 150 year ago.  That being said, I seem to recall winning a writing contest, so there's that.

To see what websites we regularly use in the classroom please click on the "Links" tab in the red box to the right.

On a more personal note, our family moved to Loudon in 2017 and we love this town.  Our family also includes 3 dogs, 8 cats, and 12 chickens!

Friday, May 16. "Bugalicious" Text TN Ready Writing Practice

Over the next week we will be practicing our writing techniques.  Remember that there are 3 types of prompts that can be asked on TN Ready; Explanatory, where you explain something in detail, Narrative, where you tell an entertaining story using dialogue, or Opinion, where you state your claim about a topic.

This file is a practice question from TN Ready involving an explanatory text.  Remember our strategies; read the PROMPT in the back FIRST so you know what to look for when you read the texts.  Then, read the questions.  Finally, read both texts.  It is important to highlight the text evidence you want to use in your writing as you read the texts.  This way, when you begin writing you know exactly where your text evidence is.

Today in English Language Arts we read chapters 1-4 of the book, I Survived Hurricane Katrina 2005 by Lauren Tarshis.

I have posted links to read aloud videos posted on YouTube.
As you listen to the read aloud, think about what kind of character Barry is based upon his thoughts, words, and actions.

Wednesday 01-13-21 Hercules' Battle Against the Hyrda

Watch this clip from the movie Hercules. Compare this battle against the Hydra to the written version in D'Aulaires' Book of Greek Myths. What is similar? What is different?
