Tusculum College, B.S. in Elementary Education (2008)
I began teaching at Loudon Elementary School in 2008. I have taught 4th grade, 1st grade, and am currently beginning my fifth year as a Kindergarten teacher.
The thing I remember most from my elementary school years was the year I was going into the third grade. My kindergarten teacher had moved to third grade and I desperately wanted to be in her class. There was another third grade teacher whose class I desperately DID NOT want to be in. I had heard how strict and mean she was, and I was terrified to be in her class. On the day my mom and I went to the school to see the class lists, I was so worried I cried during the entire drive over. When we arrived at the school and checked the lists, sure enough, I had been placed with the teacher I did not want. I was so upset. My mom assured me everything would be fine, to just remember to follow her rules and work hard. As I look back, I know without a doubt that my third grade year was one of my best years in elementary school. I learned that it was wrong to judge people before you get to know them. Mrs. Agnes Kilpatrick was one of the best teachers I ever had. She was never mean, but she had high expectations in both academics and behavior. She pushed us to be our best selves. She helped me develop a love of reading and math that I carry with me to this day.
My husband, Scott, and I have been married for 27 years. We have three sons- Matthew, Adam, and Zachary. We share our home with our cat, Tabby. I enjoy camping, going to the beach, watching movies, spending time with my family, and reading.
