Mr. Popper’s Penguins has come to Loudon Elementary School! On Thursday, January 8th, we kicked off a one book blitz for the novel Mr. Popper’s Penguins. This means the entire school is reading the same book. We had some snow, penguins, and Mrs. Amburn read a bit about the book in our assembly. Every chapter will be read aloud by an LES staff member. Families are encouraged to watch the videos together at home. Each morning, we will ask a trivia question on the morning announcements. Students who respond with the correct answer will be entered into our daily drawing for fun prizes! They can get some cool penguin merch to show they have read the chapters! We started this one book blitz to kick off the introduction to the Accelerated Reader program. Some of our students may remember this program from a couple of years ago. Students will read books, take online quizzes, and gather points for each book read successfully. These quizzes can also be taken by books read aloud by teachers and parents. These points can be turned in for prizes. All grade levels are included in the Accelerated Reading program. We look forward to seeing more and more students reading books that they like and want to read, at their own levels. If there are any favorites you have and we don’t have them in our library, let Mrs. Songster know. She might be able to purchase some and add them to our library collection. Let’s dig into reading!
