Our 3rd-5th grade students have been hard at work designing their very own Junk Bots using imagination, creativity, and engineering skills! Using materials such as cardboard, bottle caps, aluminum foil, popsicle sticks, string, and googly eyes, students transformed everyday items into one-of-a-kind robot designs.
As they planned and built, students practiced:

Before fall break, our gym was transformed into a Tailgate Party for a day filled with games, laughter, and plenty of fun for students who have gone above and beyond with their behavior. From giant game stations to friendly competitions, students celebrated the rewards that come with making positive choices every day.
We are incredibly proud of these students and look forward to recognizing even more positive behavior throughout the year!
The Art From the Heart of Loudon Elementary display at the Loudon Public Library is featuring artwork from Mrs. William's Kindergarten class and Mrs. Bethel's 1st grade class this month!
We invite families to stop by the library and see the amazing creativity, imagination, and hard work of our students on display. There is nothing quite like seeing your artwork showcased for the community to enjoy!

1. Students should bring home Tomahawk Trot - Bonus Round t-shirt order forms today. See photo attachment to see the design. Orders and money are due on October 12th.
2. Beginning Friday afternoon, parents will receive an automated email letting them know how many Parent XP their children have! This email will include each student's points level and upcoming opportunities for families to earn more XP! For now, this email will only be sent to one parent. If parents need to update the email address on file, please let homeroom teachers know.
3. The Loudon County FRC is hosting a parenting workshop for elementary families on Friday, October 16th beginning at 3:30. The flyer is attached. 6. Fall pictures will be taken on Thursday, October 15th. All students will have a picture taken for the yearbook, but picture orders are pre-pay only. Pre-pay envelopes are being sent home with students today. The date on the order forms is INCORRECT. The photography company sent them with an error, but we opted to send them home anyway to ensure parents get the forms before fall break. Picture Day is Thursday, October 15th.
7. We need volunteers for picture day on October 15th.. Students can earn Parent XP if their family members volunteer to help with picture day, Call the front office to sign up to volunteer.

2. As we near the end of Attendance Awareness Month, we want to remind parents about the Attendance Store at FLMS. All LES families are encouraged to participate in the Attendance Store. Students earn points for each day they are at school and can spend them on a wide range of items.
3. Boy Scout representatives will visit classrooms on Tuesday, September 22nd. The parent meeting for Boy Scouts will be on Tuesday, September 22nd at 6:30 PM in the LES cafeteria.
4. We are transitioning our annual Tomahawk Trot to a fall event. This means we will have a "Bonus Round" of the Tomahawk Trot this fall! Our event t-shirt and student prizes are "Bonus Round" themed. More details will be shared, but the Tomahawk Trot Bonus Round will be on Friday, October 30th.

4. TN has a new law indicating that public schools will teach about Independence Day each school year. Loudon County Schools has decided to do this county-wide on Friday, September 18th. We encourage all students and staff to wear red, white, and blue on Friday.
5. Last week, the Loudon County Board of Education voted to restructure Loudon Elementary School into a PK-4th grade school. That means that our current fourth and fifth graders will transition to FLMS next school year. We will communicate more about that transition throughout the year.

Our students have been busy designing, building, and learning through hands-on robotics activities!
🎨 K-2 students created colorful Paper Robots, using creativity and artistic design skills.
📐 3rd & 4th graders are planning their Junk Bots for next week, using recycled materials and the engineering design process to bring their robot ideas to life.
⚡ 5th graders first learned how to control robots using their laptops. This week, they built working Bristle Bots using toothbrushes, batteries, and vibrating motors. They are learning how electrical energy can be transformed into motion!
We love seeing our young engineers think creatively, solve problems, and discover how STEAM connects learning to the real world!

4. Each Tuesday and Thursday, we receive refrigerated/frozen food items from our local Weigel's. Weigel's operates a surplus food rescue that allows items that have been pulled from their hot bars to be donated to schools and other organizations. LCBOE member, Scott Newman, coordinates this program for LES. We currently offer these food bags to any interested students. If you do not want your child to bring home a food bag, let his/her teacher know.

6. We can't thank our families enough for the support we received for the Battle of the Bridge food drive. LES collected $4510.40 plus food donations. We raised the equivalent of 24,953 pounds of food for the community!

Each year in February our ELL (English Language Learners) take an exam called the ELPA21, English Language Proficiency Assessment. They are assessed on how much English they are able to use in the four tested areas of Listening, Reading, Speaking and Writing. This test is hard! To pass or exit from the ELL program, they need to reach proficiency in ALL FOUR AREAS! All of these students did that last year. We are so proud of their effort on the test, but most of all, their ability to be successful in both languages in their classrooms and in their neighborhoods. There were also 5 students who exited the ELPA who are now in 6th grade at FLMS. We wish we could have celebrated with them today.
We did celebrate with the current first through fifth grade students who exited last year, today. They had a pancake party with all the fixings, made a personalized pencil bag, and a cool keychain swag for their bag! They were so creative and we loved hearing the conversations they had as they created their keychains. If you see any of these students, give them a high five and congratulate them on their achievement!

LES Parents: Here is some important information to help you stay in the loop!
1. It's Battle of the Bridge Week! Flyers were sent home on Friday with students. As a reminder, we are collecting non-perishable foods and money for the Battle of the Bridge food drive throughout the week.
2. LAUNCH begins on September 9th. The last day for permission forms is Friday, September 11th. Clubs will fill fast, so return your forms ASAP. Club schedule is attached. Clubs are subject to change, but we hope this schedule will be set for the Fall. In January we might add and/or change some groups. Students will choose their club on the day they attend. After the first couple of weeks, we will see if we need to adjust the sizes of groups. Students do not need to attend every day.
Snacks are provided for LAUNCH. If your child has food allergies or specific needs, please provide them with a snack.
3. ELL News: We will be celebrating the students in first through fifth grade that passed the ELL exit test. Click below to view the flyer.
