Our ONE BOOK BLITZ has begun! We are going to be reading the novel, Mr. Popper's Penguins ALL together. Yes, that is correct. We need parents to join in by listening on YouTube with their children, reading the book out loud at home, or encouraging your child to read this book on their own.
Throughout the reading of the novel, each day the students will be asked a trivia question on the morning announcements. They will need to have either listened or read that chapter to be able to answer the question.
We are especially excited about this project because it gives us the perfect opportunity to introduce students to Accelerated Reader. This online quiz platform allows students to earn points for reading books. Some of our older students may remember using it in the past, but it will be brand new for many of our learners.
Please be sure to subscribe and click notifications, to our school YouTube channel, so you can get notified when the latest chapter is uploaded.

We hope you’ll join us and help your child get the most out of this fun and meaningful reading experience!

On Friday, December 12, we hosted a celebration for our ELL (English Language Learners). These 26 students, a few who are at Fort Loudoun Middle School now, accomplished a great achievement. They passed the ELPA21 English language acquisition test. This test gauges how much English a student knows through the four domains of speaking, listening, reading and writing. It is a difficult test that requires great concentration, comprehension, and stamina. These students scored proficient!! They will no longer need extra small group instruction! We will monitor their progress for the next two years, to make sure they continue to find success. We are proud of them and hope they keep their bilingual status throughout their lives.
Check out the video of our celebration on Facebook.

Last night we had the first ever Parent Dig shop at our Holidays in the Hall celebration! We had so many parents and children come through and "spend" the number of points they have earned. You an earn points by completing and returning the monthly parent menus, going on field trips, joining your child's room app, coming to the Principal's lunch and other options! There were many tough decisions that had to be made. Some students chose to save their points for the Spring shop. Enjoy the pictures of families shopping!

📚 Our second graders have been busy exploring exciting topics this week!
In Skills, they’ve been following the story of a girl named Kim on her summer job hunt in 🗽 New York City. Today, students partnered up to read “The Subway” 🚇 and worked on comprehension questions together.
In Knowledge, the focus has been on insects 🐞🦋—discovering what makes an insect an insect and learning about fascinating social insects 🐜.
It’s been a fun-filled week packed with learning and curiosity! ✨ #secondgraderocks #digintolearning

Second grade had their very own Pony Express adventure today!
As part of our Westward Expansion domain, second graders learned all about the Pony Express and how it connected people across long distances. To bring history to life, students wrote letters to friends in another second grade class—just like riders carried mail in the 1860s! Today, we delivered the letters, and the excitement was priceless as students read what their peers wrote. What a fun way to make history hands-on! 📬🐎✨
